Brian's Vision

In order to reach the next level, we must have vision, leadership, community involvement, and strategic partnerships with our many local businesses and government agencies.

Below are some thoughts on how we can help the City of Doraville reach the next level and attract new residents and new businesses, encouraging them to call Doraville home.

  1. Technology: Continue to enhance and upgrade our city’s website; ensure all city employees have access to work-place computer and their own email account; provide opportunity for residents to pay bills electronically and online.
  2. Recycling: We need to expand our curb-side recycling program.
  3. City/Community Events: This past year saw the City of Doraville provide not one, not two, not three, but four community events. Two “Movies Under the Stars”, the return of the Doraville 5k Road Race, and the inaugural Doraville Days celebration. We need to continue these events and make sure that our residents, our business partners, and our guests have a terrific and safe time in the City of Doraville.
  4. Police/Safety: We must continue to be vigilant and pro-active in our policing. With re-energized Neighborhood Watch programs and true community policing with officers on bicycles in our neighborhoods we have laid the groundwork to ensure that our neighborhoods and residents are safe, both at night and during the day. We cannot become complacent and satisfied and must continue to look for ways to bring our community together.
  5. Finances: The city remains in strong financial shape and we must continue to ensure that our city operates in a financially sound manner. This will entail reviewing current contracts and vendor agreements to ensure that we have and continue to receive competent and competitive bids and that the city is receiving proper goods and services for money spent.
  6. Aesthetics: We must continue to address the look and feel of the city from our welcome signs to our parks, from the street signs to the interchanges at 285. The look and feel must be welcoming if we want people to move into our city and become stake-holders. This cannot be done overnight but with thoughtful planning can make a significant impact on our city.
Zoning Ordinances: Over the last 12-months we have re-written most of the city’s zoning ordinances. However, our work is not done yet. Specifically we need to,
  1. Allow for mixed-use zoning in appropriate areas along New Peachtree Road and along some portions of Buford Highway and Peachtree Industrial Blvd. Mixed-use is NOT appropriate in our neighborhoods, but is an important component for future growth of our city.
  2. Establish construction standards for new in-fill and replacement residences within our neighborhoods. New houses should architecturally blend in with our existing homes including construction materials and general appearance.
  3. Create construction and aesthetic standards for the potential General Motors re-development including minimum architectural standards, greenspace requirements, and streetscaping such as lamp posts, sidewalk width, and bus stops and recycling containers.
The success of our City should not rest upon the shoulders of one person, but on the collective efforts of all of us.
